LEICA Project Organized Regional Workshop Addressing the Escalating Threats of Cyberterrorism

In the dynamic landscape of evolving digital technologies, the rising threat of cyberterrorism has become a global concern for governments and societies. The LEICA project, funded by the European Union, addressed this issue by organizing the "Backtracking Cyberterrorism" regional workshop in Astana, Kazakhstan, from January 29 to February 2, 2024. The event brought together 18 professionals from cyber investigation and security agencies from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Structured with theoretical sessions and practical exercises, the workshop focused on conducting searches, identification, and analyses of cyber threats. Participants exchanged information on methods and approaches, discussed cybercrime legislation, conventions, strategic communications, AI (artificial intelligence), and cybersecurity P/CVE (preventing and countering violent extremism) programming. The importance of collaboration at national, regional, and international levels was emphasized in combating cyberterrorism.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Edvardas Aleksandras, Political Officer of the European Union Delegation to Kazakhstan, emphasized that in the current geopolitical climate, the significance of LEICA continues to grow, particularly as the threat of cyberterrorism looms over both Central Asia and the EU.
In the concluding statements, the LEICA Director emphasized the critical significance of collective responsibility in safeguarding nations, especially in an era where the digital landscape serves as both a hub for innovation and a playground for malicious entities.
The workshop's success was highlighted in the concluding statements, emphasizing collective responsibility in safeguarding nations in the digital era. The EU-funded LEICA project exemplifies collaboration, uniting specialists from Central Asia, the EU, and beyond to address complex terrorism threats.
