LEICA continues cycle of seminars on preventing of terrorism financing

On 28 March-1 April 2022 the EU-funded project LEICA (Law Enforcement in Central Asia) organized in Almaty, Kazakhstan a national seminar on prevention of financing terrorism in Darkweb.  Ten IT specialists from General Prosecutor’s Office, KNB and MIA participated in this seminar to share experiences and develop new skills under the couching of LEICA international experts. These trainers helped the participants to understand and apply a number of digital investigative techniques in a practical environment and further develop their skills to identify, investigate and disrupt the financing of terrorism and detect and trace the suspects in terrorism beyond the common Internet. It was also aimed at strengthening the capacity of law enforcement organizations to co-operate in conducting efficient CFT investigations.
The LEICA Director, during the opening session, commending participants commitment to the program said: “This seminar is a response to challenges from extremists and terrorists who actively use the Internet for recruitment, communication, and financing. The Dark Web is a separate part of the Internet accessible to experienced professionals and its anonymity makes it easy for criminals to abuse it. The illegal sale of drugs, weapons, smuggling of migrants, money laundering, terrorist activities and cybercrimes can all be facilitated with the help of modern technologies. To expose them, good specialists are needed, and this seminar will contribute to this.”
The training course is part of LEICA multi-year working plan to assist law enforcement agencies in combating terrorism in Central Asia.
The project LEICA is funded by the European Union and is implemented by the French CIVIPOL and Slovak ISEMI Consortium, and INTERPOL is the official supporting partner of the project.
