LEICA Delivered Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Training in Astana

EU-funded project LEICA organized in Astana (Kazakhstan) a four-day training on Open Sources Intelligence (OSINT) from 12-15 December 2022.  16 Officials from the State Security Service, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the General Prosecutor Office and the Agency on Financial Monitoring participated in the activity. The participants practiced advanced information search in Google, Yandex and social networks, like Facebook, VKontakte, Instagram, Telegram, WhatsApp, and other messengers, and learned to identify fake news, with tools provided by the three experts (from Poland, Lithuania and Kazakhstan) who conducted the training. The participants were provided with tools that help to detect and to identify in Internet criminal signals, including terrorism and violent extremism activity. A final exercise (catching the flag) confirmed the acquired abilities of the participants to find specific information in internet websites and social networks.
The participants expressed the importance of this training and suggested to plan for the future more sessions with more days for training on this subject.
The Project LEICA is managed by the European Commission, through a consortium made of French CIVIPOL and Slovak ISEMI, supported by Interpol.
