LEICA Organized Training on Prevention Extremism and Terrorism in Batken Province
Organized by the European Union funded project LEICA (Law Enforcement in Central Asia) a four-day training seminar entitled "The role of law enforcement agencies in preventing extremism and terrorism among the population" was held in Batken, Kyrgyzstan from 25 to 28 April 2023. The event was organized in cooperation with the Service on Combating Extremism and Illegal Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic in order to implement the concept of state policy in the religious sphere of the Kyrgyz Republic for the period from 2022 to 2026.
105 employees of the district departments and the Department of Internal Affairs of Batken region were familiarized with methods for preventing radicalization of the population, combating extremism and terrorism, determining external signs and behavior to identify potential terrorists/extremists in the territory of the republic. Particular attention was paid to studying the tactics used by leaders of banned extremist religious groups to recruit and radically manipulate the population and ways to counteract attempts by such groups to destabilize the situation in the country.
LEICA and the Ministry of Interior continue a series of seminars on identifying and preventing terrorism and violent extremism for Interior Ministry personnel in all regions of Kyrgyzstan. Training has already been held in Osh, Issyk-Kul and Talas provinces.
During the seminars, specialists answered numerous questions from participants and finished the training with distribution of more than 1,500 copies of methodological handbooks, booklets and pamphlets on the prevention of religious extremism, which were prepared by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and printed with the financial support of the LEICA project.
