Preparedness of Kyrgyz Prison Service to detect and to prevent radicalization, supported by LEICA

European Union-funded project LEICA has financially supported the printing of 300 copies of a manuals for Kyrgyz Prison Service staff to identify radical, religious extremism and terrorism activity among persons serving sentences in penal institutions of Kyrgyzstan. 
The manual, that will be distributed to the Prison Service employees, explains in an understandable manner the tradition of Islam and the principles of Kyrgyzstan as a secular state. It aims at raising their educational level in the religious sphere and at creating an anti-terrorist consciousness, identifying violent extremist believes and behaviour among persons serving sentences on terrorism and extremism, as well as ordinary crimes. 
Cooperation between LEICA and Kyrgyz Prison Service has been very fruitful during the last three years. Hundreds of employees have actively participated in training, seminars and workshops related to dynamic security, prison intelligence, hostage and crisis management and special intervention units, detection of radicalization and management of radicalized women in prisons.
Prison Service and LEICA staff who participated in the handover of the manuals expressed their satisfaction with the work done during this time and wished for a continued cooperation in the next future.
LEICA is managed by the EU Commission, directly and through a Consortium made up of French CIVIPOL and Slovak ISEMI, with the support of INTERPOL.
