Training on Detection and Prevention of Radicalization in Prisons

From 26 to 29 February 2024, the LEICA project (Law Enforcement in Central Asia), funded by the European Union, collaborated closely with the Kyrgyz Prisons Service and representatives from Civil Society to conduct a training seminar for 88 correction officers stationed in prisons in Karakol, Cholpon-Ata, Balykchy, and Naryn. The focus of the seminar was on recognizing signs of radicalization. Admitting the pivotal role personnel play in any prison system, the prison administration prioritizes the careful selection and training of staff. This particular training equipped participants with essential concepts, tools, and skills for managing extremist prisoners and preventing radicalization within prison facilities. The involvement of Civil Society experts ensured the protection of prisoners' human rights and dignity. This training marked the culmination of a series of training sessions conducted for prison personnel in Kyrgyzstan.
